Overview
Sleeping at LaGuardia Airport is possible, but where you end up makes a big difference. Terminal B has produced the most useful recent sleeping reports, including couches and occasional armrest-free seating after security, while travellers stuck before security describe bright lights, hard floors, metal benches and overnight cleaning. If you are staying overnight, do not assume you will be able to remain after security. Security checkpoints close overnight, and traveller experiences with remaining airside have been mixed. If you are moved landside, expect a much less comfortable night.
A fun experience to recount but I would not repeat voluntarily.” (Traveller review, May 2025)
Can You Sleep in LaGuardia Airport Overnight?
Yes. LaGuardia’s public areas remain accessible overnight, and travellers continue to sleep in the terminals during cancellations, early departures and overnight connections. The bigger question is whether you can stay airside after security. Security checkpoints close overnight, generally reopening for the first morning departures. Traveller experiences have varied. In November 2024, one traveller arriving in Terminal B at 10:30 PM was told by airport customer service that staying overnight near the gate was fine and remained there until a 6:00 AM flight. Other travellers have reported announcements that gate areas were closing overnight or have ended up sleeping landside until security reopened. If you are deliberately arriving at LGA the night before an early flight, plan on sleeping landside unless you are already airside and airport staff allow you to remain there. Keep your boarding pass handy. Travellers have reported security or airport staff checking that overnight sleepers have a legitimate flight.
Sleepability Verdict
Sleepability: Tolerable
LaGuardia has improved considerably for airport sleepers since its terminal redevelopment, but it is still a very mixed place to spend the night.
Terminal B offers the strongest possibilities. Travellers have found large couches, occasional armrest-free benches and quieter airside areas. One November 2024 traveller had an unusually peaceful night airside with little more than cleaning and maintenance activity. The experience changes sharply if you are landside. A May 2025 traveller stranded in Terminal B found mostly metal benches with dividers and ended up sleeping on the floor in a brightly lit departure area while cleaners worked through the night. Cold temperatures are another recurring complaint. Come prepared with an eye mask, earplugs and a warm layer. If you can remain airside and claim one of the better couches, LGA can be surprisingly manageable. If you are pushed landside and onto the floor, expect a considerably rougher night.
It was safe but not pleasant. A lot of fellow passengers also stayed overnight.” (Traveller review, May 2025)

Best Places to Sleep
Terminal B has produced LaGuardia’s most promising recent sleep experiences. Travellers have reported large couches and some seating without dividers, although ordinary gate seating often has armrests. A November 2024 traveller who stayed near the gate found one large sofa and described the terminal as very quiet overnight, apart from employees cleaning and doing maintenance. An earlier traveller found large round cushioned couches around the gate areas that were big enough to stretch out on.
Seating: Couches, armrest-heavy gate seating
Noise: Variable; cleaning and announcements possible
Lighting: Variable
Temperature: Can be cold
Power: Charging available throughout the terminal
Terminal B, Airside, Gates 14-20
Travellers have previously reported large round couches without seat dividers around this part of Terminal B. The couches were padded and large enough to stretch out, although they were popular with other overnight sleepers. This location was last described in detail in 2022, so the seating may have changed.
Seating: Large padded couches
Noise: Announcements and overnight activity possible
Terminal B, Airside, Concourse B
Near the bottom of the escalator in Concourse B, a traveller reported a metal bench without armrests beside a circle of trees and plants. It was long enough to lie down on, although the metal surface was not particularly comfortable. This spot was reported in 2022 and has not been confirmed recently.
Seating: Armrest-free metal bench
Lighting: Bright enough to make an eye mask useful
Terminal B, Landside, Departures
If security is closed, the main departures area may become your fallback. This is more of a place to get through the night than a good sleeping spot. In May 2025, a traveller stranded after a weather cancellation found mostly metal benches with dividers and slept on the floor until security reopened around 3:30 AM. The terminal remained brightly lit and active with cleaners throughout the night.
Seating: Mostly metal benches with dividers
Floor: Hard
Noise: Overnight cleaning and activity
Lighting: Bright
Temperature: Can be cold
Terminal B, Landside, Arrivals/Baggage Claim
The downstairs arrivals area has been described by travellers as having carpeted sections, making it a possible fallback if you are sleeping landside and would rather avoid the hard floor upstairs.
Expect other overnight travellers and some activity around the baggage claim area.
Floor: Carpeted areas available
Noise: Variable
Older Sleeping in Airports information mentions a limited number of benches near Gate A3 as a possible place to rest. We have not received a recent traveller review confirming the current seating here, so consider this a spot to check rather than something to depend on.
Seating: Benches previously reported
Terminal C’s newer gate areas may offer possibilities, but recent detailed sleeping information is limited. One traveller stranded after a Delta cancellation managed to make a bed using couch cushions from a restaurant. The arrangement lasted until about 4:30 AM, when the restaurant reopened and the traveller had to move.
If you are already airside in Terminal C, look around the quieter gate and restaurant seating areas before giving up and heading landside.
Seating: Mostly regular terminal seating; couches may be available in some areas
Temperature: Cold reported
Noise: Can be noisy
Airport Sleeper Essentials
Cots
LaGuardia does not routinely provide cots to stranded passengers. During a recent weather cancellation, Delta distributed airline blankets to some passengers sleeping in Terminal C, but do not count on blankets or other sleeping supplies being available.
Food Available Overnight
Do not assume that LaGuardia’s restaurants will remain open through the night. A May 2025 traveller reported an all-night Starbucks in the Terminal B baggage claim area. Other recent travellers have also reported finding overnight food or drinks, but current airport information does not clearly identify a dependable list of 24-hour concessions. If you know you will be staying overnight, buy food and drinks before the main concessions close. Water refill stations are available in the terminals.
Showers
There are no public showers at LaGuardia, but showers are available inside some Terminal B lounges. The American Airlines Admirals Club near Gates 30-31 has showers and is normally open from 4:30 AM to 9:30 PM. The Centurion Lounge on Level 4 also has a shower suite. The private Reserve Suites inside the Chase Sapphire Lounge have ensuite bathrooms with rainfall showers, but the suites require eligible access, a paid reservation and are not an overnight facility. See the LaGuardia Airport Guide for additional lounge access information.
Airport Hotels, Sleep Pods & Cabins
If sleeping in the terminal doesn’t sound appealing, there are several hotels immediately around LaGuardia. There is no hotel inside or directly connected to the terminals, so you will need to leave the airport.

Airport Lounges with Sleep Facilities
Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club
Terminal B, Airside, Level 4
The Chase Sapphire Lounge is the standout lounge for travellers looking for somewhere to rest during a long daytime layover. It is open daily from approximately 4:30 AM to 9:30 PM and has private rest pods in its wellness area. A traveller who used one in 2024 described a private chair with a footrest, table and privacy curtain. There was still some background music and conversation, so this is more of a private resting space than a silent sleeping room. The lounge also has three bookable Reserve Suites with private space and ensuite bathrooms with showers. These are paid facilities for eligible Chase cardholders and can be reserved for up to three hours before departure. Neither the rest pods nor suites solve the overnight sleeping problem because the lounge closes at night.
Other LaGuardia lounges provide more comfortable places to wait, and some have showers, but they do not offer dedicated sleep facilities. See the LaGuardia Airport Guide for a complete list of lounges.
Safety & Security
Recent traveller reviews generally describe feeling safe while sleeping at LaGuardia, particularly when staying airside. Airport and security staff may approach you to check your boarding pass or confirm that you are travelling, so keep your flight information handy. Landside areas may also be used overnight by people seeking shelter. Recent travellers have generally described them as keeping to themselves, but the public areas are accessible to people who are not travelling. As at any airport, keep your passport, wallet and phone secured and keep your luggage immediately beside you while sleeping. This is particularly important if you are sleeping on the floor or in an open landside area.
Seats are not the most comfortable, but there was at least one big sofa. No announcements on the speakers.” (Traveller review, November 2024)
