A few airport reviews from the archives

tell us how much this airport rocked!

"Well, me and my friend came to Azerbaijan, Baku to participate in a couple of dog shows, and after the last show we decided not to go back to hotel but go straight to the airport (for financial reasons).
So we came to Heydar Aliyev airport with our paraphenalia and two small dogs in their boxes.
The airport staff was not very nice (well, we were two young girls, who they probably considered silly or somewhat freaky european tourists).
So we had to wait at the airport nearly 7 hours since our flight was only early in the morning. So we had to overnight there. We found the waiting hall with metal benches, nearby there was a bar. Non special, kind of poor, although edible food if you're hungry enough.
After we had a bite, we went back to the waiting lounge and had to "enjoy" the hardness of the metal benches. Some hours later some Czech (?) mountain hikers acompanied us.
Couple of security guards passed by a few times, but they didn't say a thing.
In general, the airport is edible, although local people are strange and you'd better stay further away and avoid contact with them, since for most of them an european person means only a thing from which you can get bunch of money."

"is recently renovated. But while there's plenty of space beyond check in, there's nowhere suitable that I could find to kip when arriving on a 4am flight. However, there's a cheap hotel within the airport grounds (the 'Tayara') which charges less than 10 for admittedly putrid beds."
