(This is my third contribution to this web site) This story happened in 1996 when we were flying back to Manila after spending two nights in the Philppines' premier island beach resort, Boracay. We were dropped off in an air-conditioned bus right in front of this small provincial airport. After we entered the terminal, I saw two uniformed airport policemen manning the "metal detector". One of the policemen instructed us to put our carry-on luggage on the table in front of him. He opened them and pretended to inspect the contents inside. I'm saying "pretended" because he barely lifted the folded clothes inside our luggage. He then instructed us to carry our luggage and then pass through the "metal detector". I had coins, a wristwatch, and a video camera with me but I did not hear the metal detector going off. With a smile, I commented to the other policeman that the so-called metal detector did not even seemed to be turned on. He put a forefinger in front of his lips, with a wink, he "Shhhhed!" me. There wasn't an empty seat inside the small "secure" pre-departure area, so my party of ten people had to stand in the front while waiting for our Philippine Airlines 737 plane. The passengers sitting in the pre-departure area were composed mostly of Filipinos but there were several newly-tanned Americans and Europeans. I felt that I needed to pee so I looked for a restroom and I thought I was lucky because there was one right next to where we were standing. I entered the toilet and I saw that the commode was plugged up and filled with "solid" materials. I quickly exited and told my group that I could not use the toilet because it was "breathtaking" inside the toilet. A caucasian man in his twenties sitting in the front row seats laughed loudly after he heard my comment. My wife suggested that I should complain to the airport manager. With a sigh, I replied to her that it was probably the airport manager who last used the toilet. I heard the same caucasian man laughing again. A few minutes later, our plane landed and "
