Once all the passengers were settled in the room, the airport staff dimmed the lights and I was able to get a decent night's sleep. - Joe

"I was scheduled to fly to Osaka Kansai/KIX on the 17th but after some circling around the airport taxiway and going back and forth on a bus between the terminal and the plane, my flight was finally cancelled due to a heavy snow storm. There was nice cushioned chairs on the departure floor but were already taken up so I decided to go downstairs to the arrivals hall. There is an airport hotel but unfortunately I didn't have any cash nor plastic to pay for a room. After some 30 minutes of settling in the seat, a security guard tried to explain to me (he unfortunately didn't speak English but was nevertheless patient and courteous) that the airport closes at a certain time and passengers staying overnight in the airport were to head to a conference room.Upon arriving, we had to fill out our flight information in a list and were issued blankets which had the old JAL logo. Pillows weren't offered but there seemed to be enough blankets to make some cushioning for the head. Once all the passengers were settled in the room, the airport staff dimmed the lights and I was able to get a decent night's sleep. I have never been in an airport where the staff would at least provide something to passengers that didn't want to go to a hotel for an overnight stay. If I were stranded once again in Chitose, I would definitely take up this option...and maybe bring a pillow as well. "
