Sleeping in Airports

Airport Adventures: Milan Malpensa Airport

…a free shower! But haha – what a laugh if you haven’t got a towel – ever tried to dry yourself off with paper towels!?!?!?

“I flew out to spend a week in Malta, from South Africa. Discovered that my travel agent had forgotten to advise me that I needed a transit visa to travel the Milan-Rome sector of my flight. Not a pleasant feeling to be marched back into the airport transit lounge by the Italian police!

I was forced to wait for 24 hours inside the Transit lounge, for the next flight to Malta. What a thought for a open-air girl like me!!!

I had no money, so Air Malta kindly gave me a food voucher. After sitting around for a few hours, I decided to try and “sweet talk” my way into the Executive Lounge (I have been a Frequent Traveller before on BA, and thought I could try and leverage that!). Lucky, lucky, lucky! It’s definitely a tactic to try at Milan Airport.

Once in the Executive Lounge, I could spread out on magnificently comfortable couches, munch my way through a million biscuits and coffees, and even (HEAVENLY!) have a free shower! But haha – what a laugh if you haven’t got a towel – ever tried to dry yourself off with paper towels!?!?!? Very entertaining!

It was heaven to finally hear my flight called, only to learn from Alitalia that the flight was overbooked, and they had booked someone else on my seat. I produced a Titanic Tantrum and voila! I was on the flight. I have never enjoyed the sensation of sinking into my own bed at home more than that night.
But I will never, ever as long as I live, fly Alitalia again!

Milan Airport Transit Lounge was a pleasant place to be locked in for 24 hours, however!”
