To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport.

What to Expect

tbilisi airport guideThe recently expanded terminal at Tbilisi Airport (code: TBS) handles European and Central Asian routes. Facilities are include six eateries and three duty-free shops, but they are all open 24 hours. Free WiFi helps pass the time. Economy class passengers can pay to enter two airport lounges. Sleeping in Tbilisi Airport

Campers describe a problem-free overnight experience. Some escalators have artificial turf underneath, providing some cushion for rest. Otherwise, bring a sleeping bag or travel mat to spread out on the floor. Earplugs and an eye mask will help you cope with occasional noise and bright lights. In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there are lounges that you can enter by paying at the door or through a lounge membership program. ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Landside and Airside.

Baby Care Facilities – Baby care rooms are located in the departures hall and in the arrival hall, in the baggage claim area and in the meeting zone.

Currency Exchange – There are 2 foreign exchange offices and 1 currency exchange machine located in the airport (airside and landside).

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty Free is available at 3 locations in the airport with the ones located in the Departures Hall being open 24 hours. Additionally, there are several gift shops located throughout the airport, all of which are also open 24 hours.

Food & Drinks – There are six dining options with four operating 24 hours (Wendys’, Illy Cafe, Dunkin Donut and Brewmark)

Information Desk – If you have any questions, visit the airport information desk for assistance. Location: in the center of the terminal. Hours: open 24 hours.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Location: Arrivals Hall. Hours: open 24 hours. Daily Rates: 10 GEL (standard bag) • 20 GEL (large bag).

Luggage Wrapping – Protect your bags from theft and damage by having your bags wrapped in plastic. Location: departures hall. Hours: 24 hours. Rates: 25 GEL per unit.

Medical Services – If you require medical attention, medical services are located in the middle of the Arrivals & Departures Hall. Hours: 24 hours a day.

Mobile Charging – A reviewer tells us that power outlets can be found in a few places around the airport.

Showers – Not available.

Smoking – Smoking is prohibited inside the airport, except for in the designated smoking areas.

transportationAirport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Bus

Tbilisi Airport is served by city bus line #337 Airport – Tbilisi city center – Airport. This bus line runs from 6:59AM to 10:59PM and stops at a designated bus stop in front of the Arrivals Hall. At the time of this update, a one-way ticket is 1 GEL. Exact change is required.

Car Rentals

Avis can be found in the Arrivals Hall.

Hotel Shuttles

Shuttle Bus

A shuttle service is available offering passengers a connection from the airport to 3 stops in the city center: Freedom Square, Heroes Square and 26 May Square, Sport Palace. Service is available 24 hours a day and as of this update, costs 8 GEL per person.

Taxis

Taxis are readily available for hire outside of the Arrivals Hall 24 hours a day. There are no meters, so negotiate a fare with the driver before starting your journey. At the time of this update, one-way fare between the airport and city center is 30-50 GEL, and travel time is about 20 – 30 minutes.

Train

Trains to the city depart from the airport railway station, located about 70 meters from the airport terminal. The train departs Tbilisi central railway for the airport at 7:55AM and 4:55PM, and departs the airport for Tbilisi central railway at 8:35AM and 5:40PM. Each train holds about 100 passengers. A one-way trip takes about 40 minutes and at the time of this update, costs 0.50 GEL.
