Overview

Sleeping in Belgrade Airport is generally a good experience, particularly if you can find one of the padded couches before security. Travellers have reported getting several hours of sleep on these sofas, making the airport a reasonable option for an overnight stay, early departure or long layover. The airport is open 24 hours, and overnight sleeping is generally tolerated. Both before- and after-security areas remain operational, although access through security depends on flight schedules. If you arrive before check-in opens, you can wait and sleep in the public areas. The biggest advantage is the availability of couches and armrest-free seating. The main drawbacks are bright lighting, announcements, overnight cleaning and early morning check-in activity. Bring earplugs, an eye mask and an extra layer, especially if you’re planning to sleep before security.

I slept a solid 4-5 hours at 601+ but ended up moving to 401+ once people started gathering there to check in.” (Traveller review, May 2025)

Can You Sleep in Belgrade Airport Overnight?

Yes. Belgrade Airport is open 24 hours, and travellers regularly sleep in the terminal overnight. Traveller reviews describe people sleeping on couches before security without being disturbed by airport security or police. Remaining after security overnight may also be possible if you’re already in the departure area. However, security screening follows flight schedules, and you should not assume you can enter the airside area at any hour. If you arrive before your airline opens check-in, expect to wait before security. There is no general requirement for overnight sleepers to leave the airport, but access to particular areas can change with airport operations.

Sleepability Verdict

Sleepability: Good

Belgrade earns a Good rating thanks to its unusually sleep-friendly couches, especially in Terminal 1 before security. Several travellers describe padded sofas long enough to lie down on, and some have managed four to six hours of sleep. The airport isn’t consistently quiet, though. Announcements, cleaning staff and passengers arriving for early flights can interrupt your rest. Lighting stays on overnight, and some areas feel chilly. For a few hours of sleep, Belgrade is better equipped than many airports where armrests make lying down difficult. Finding the right couch, away from busy check-in counters, makes a noticeable difference.

I slept non stop for 6 hours here.” (Traveller review, September 2023)

Terminal 1
Terminal 1, Landside, Check-in Counters 401 and 601
These are among the most useful sleeping spots at Belgrade Airport. A May 2025 traveller found comfortable couches near both check-in areas and slept for several hours near Counter 601 before moving when passengers began gathering. The couches near Counter 401 may be a better choice for a longer rest. That area was described as slightly darker, with less cleaning activity and fewer people walking past. Near Counter 601, earlier reviews describe padded red leather sofas close to the windows overlooking the apron. The couches are long enough to stretch out, and toilets are nearby.
Seating: Padded couches and armrest-free sofas
Noise: Announcements, cleaning staff and check-in activity
Lighting: Bright near 601; somewhat darker near 401
Temperature: Can be chilly

Terminal 1, Landside, Check-in Counters 106-109
A traveller sleeping here in August 2024 found couches comfortable enough for an overnight stay, with several other people also resting nearby. The drawback is the early morning activity. Check-in counters began operating around 3:30 AM during that visit, bringing passengers, movement and announcements that made further sleep difficult. This area may work for a shorter rest, but don’t count on sleeping through the morning rush.
Seating: Comfortable couches
Noise: Noisy when early check-in begins

Terminal 1, Landside, Restaurant Area
Past reviews describe armrest-free sofas in the restaurant area before security. Once the restaurants closed, the area became quieter, and travellers were able to lie down and sleep. Cleaning staff occasionally passed through during the night, but the seating offered a useful alternative to the main check-in areas. This location was last described in 2022, so the current furniture arrangement may differ.
Seating: Armrest-free sofas
Noise: Generally quieter after restaurants close; occasional cleaning

Terminal 1, Landside, Upper-Level Seating Area
Travellers have also described couches and large stools in an upper-level seating area with landscaping. These are not designated sleeping facilities, but they may provide somewhere to sit more comfortably during a long wait. If the main check-in couches are occupied, this area is worth checking before settling for ordinary terminal chairs.
Seating: Couches and large stools

Terminal 2
Terminal 2, Airside, Gates A2-A5
Past airport information describes padded seating, benches and footstools around Gates A2-A3 and A4-A5. These may be useful for a daytime nap or a longer connection if you’re already through security. The seating isn’t part of an official sleeping area, and availability will depend on how busy the departure gates are.
Seating: Padded chairs, benches and footstools
Power: Charging points nearby

Terminal 2, Airside, Gates C2-C3
A December 2023 traveller reported finding very comfortable sofas near the smoking area around Gate C3 and sleeping for almost four hours without interruption. Other airport information also mentions seating and footstools around Gates C2-C3. This area is worth checking during a long layover, although the availability of sofas may have changed.
Seating: Comfortable sofas, benches and footstools
Power: Charging points reported nearby

Airport Sleeper Essentials

Cots
Belgrade Airport does not provide cots for stranded travellers during flight cancellations or other disruptions.

Food Available Overnight
Overnight food options are limited. There are no consistently confirmed 24-hour staffed food outlets, and a May 2025 traveller reported finding no food available before security around midnight.
Vending machines provide an alternative in parts of the departure area. A May 2026 traveller spotted a drinks vending machine near Gate A8, with a water refill station a few metres away. If you’re spending the night before security, buy food and drinks before the concessions close rather than relying on finding something open after midnight.

Luggage Storage
Belgrade Airport does not currently offer a confirmed luggage storage or locker service. If you’re sleeping in the terminal, keep your bags immediately beside you and secure your valuables.

Showers
Showers are available in the Air Serbia Premium Lounge after security in Terminal 2, between Gates A4 and A5. Lounge admission is required. Past airport information also mentions public showers near Gate C2, reportedly accessible by requesting a key from nearby personnel. Current access has not been confirmed, so ask airport staff before relying on this option.

Airport Hotels, Sleep Pods & Cabins

Sleep Pods and Cabins
Belgrade Airport does not have dedicated sleep pods, private sleeping cabins or an in-terminal transit hotel.

Hotels Near Belgrade Airport

If you’d prefer a hotel, several properties are located within a short distance of the terminal. None of the following hotels is inside or directly connected to the airport, so you’ll need transportation.

Check directly with your hotel about airport transfers, particularly if you’re arriving late at night or leaving very early in the morning.

Airport Lounges with Sleep Facilities

Air Serbia Premium Lounge
Terminal 2, Airside, between Gates A4 and A5
The Air Serbia Premium Lounge is open 24 hours and has a designated quiet seating area where travellers can rest during a long connection. It does not offer beds, nap rooms or dedicated sleeping cabins. Showers are available, making the lounge useful if you want to freshen up during an extended layover. Access is available to eligible premium-class and frequent-flyer passengers, with paid entry also offered subject to availability. Walk-in admission has been listed at approximately €45, although rates can change.

Belgrade also has a Business Club Lounge, but it does not offer dedicated sleep facilities. See the Belgrade Airport Guide for the complete lounge list and access information.

Safety & Security

Overnight sleeping is generally tolerated at Belgrade Airport. Travellers have described sleeping alongside other passengers without being disturbed by security or police.
A May 2025 traveller reported that cleaning staff briefly woke them to ask about an unattended bag, but otherwise left sleepers alone. Other reviews describe security staff allowing people to remain on the couches throughout the night. Not everyone has felt equally comfortable. An August 2024 traveller noticed people who did not appear to be waiting for flights and felt uneasy about their presence, although no incident was described. If you’re sleeping alone, consider staying near other travellers rather than in an isolated corner. Keep your passport, phone and valuables secured, with your luggage immediately beside you.

There were other people sleeping on the couches besides me. Security didn’t bother me.” (Traveller review, May 2025)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sleep at Belgrade Airport before checking in?
Yes. Some of the most frequently recommended sleeping spots are before security, particularly around the Terminal 1 check-in counters. You don’t need to have passed through security to use these public seating areas.
Is Belgrade Airport quiet enough for a daytime nap?
You may find comfortable seating after security, particularly around the A and C gates. However, these are active departure areas, so noise and seating availability will depend on flight activity. For a daytime nap, look for seating away from busy gates.
Will I be woken up by security if I sleep overnight?
Recent reviews describe security and police generally leaving overnight sleepers alone. However, this does not guarantee that every area can be used for sleeping, and staff may ask you to move if an area is needed for airport operations.
