Overview
Sleeping in Brussels Zaventem Airport (BRU) is possible, and some travellers have found surprisingly comfortable places to rest, particularly after security in Pier A. There are couches, padded seating and designated relaxation areas for daytime naps or long connections. However, finding somewhere to stretch out can take some searching, and overnight music and announcements may interrupt your sleep. The public areas remain open overnight, but security checkpoints close between flight operations, so you should not count on being able to stay airside until morning. Travellers sleeping before security have fewer comfortable options, and security has repeatedly moved people away from the fourth floor.
For a more comfortable rest, the airport has relaxation seating after security, private sleep pods inside a lounge and a hotel directly opposite the terminal.
For a nap, you can go to Gate A27, there is never people there, just some background music (all night long, and loud speakers).” (Traveller review, February 2020)
Can You Sleep in Brussels Zaventem Airport Overnight?
Brussels Airport’s public areas are open 24 hours, and travellers have spent the night inside the terminal. Sleeping is generally tolerated in public passenger areas, although staff may check your travel documents or ask you to move from restricted locations. Airside access depends on flight schedules. Security checkpoints generally close after the last departures and reopen early in the morning, around 3:30 AM. You should not assume you can remain after security throughout the night, even if you have an onward flight. If you arrive before security late at night, expect to wait landside until screening reopens. Keep your boarding pass handy, and avoid the fourth-floor office corridors, where travellers have been told sleeping is prohibited.
Sleepability Verdict
Sleepability: Tolerable
Brussels Airport has some genuinely useful sleeping spots, but your experience depends heavily on whether you can get through security.
Pier A offers the better prospects, with couches, padded seating, relaxation chairs and quieter gate areas. Some travellers have managed to stretch out, particularly when the airport is quiet. However, many seats have fixed dividers, and overnight music, recorded advertising and announcements can make it difficult to stay asleep.
Before security, seating is more limited, power outlets can be difficult to find, and the once-popular fourth-floor sleeping area is no longer dependable. The Arrivals Hall is a more practical fallback, although comfort is basic.
The airport is manageable for a few hours of rest, particularly during a long connection. For a full night’s sleep, bring earplugs and be prepared to settle for a chair rather than a bed.

Best Places to Sleep
Pier A is generally the first place to look if you can access the departure gates. Travellers have found couches, padded benches and quieter corners, while the airport provides designated relaxation seating in both piers. If you’re stuck before security, the Arrivals Hall has been a more dependable fallback than the upper office levels.

Brussels Airport provides designated relaxation seating at these gates. The areas have chairs intended for resting, and some seating rows have power sockets and USB charging points. They are worth checking during a daytime layover or while waiting for a connecting flight, although they are not private sleeping rooms.
Seating: Relaxation chairs
Power: Sockets and USB ports at some seats
Pier A, Airside, near Gate A27
A traveller in February 2020 described Gate A27 as a quiet place to nap, with few people around at night. However, background music continued through the speakers, so the area was not completely silent. This is an older recommendation, but it may still be worth checking if you are already in Pier A.
Noise: Background music and announcements
Pier A, Airside, near Gate A48
An October 2022 traveller recommended the comfortable sofas near Gate A48. If you’re looking for somewhere to lie down rather than sit upright, this area is worth checking, although the current seating arrangement has not been confirmed.
Seating: Sofas previously reported
Pier A, Airside, near Duty-Free and Café Comptoir
A December 2024 traveller found numerous armchairs opposite the duty-free shops and Café Comptoir. Some have dividers that prevent you from stretching out, but pod-shaped chairs with supportive backs offer another place to rest. The area was relatively quiet during that traveller’s Monday-night stay, although recorded advertising continued overnight.
Seating: Divided armchairs and pod-shaped chairs
Noise: Overnight audio advertising
Temperature: Comfortable in the December 2024 review
Power: Limited outlets reported
Pier A, Airside, Schengen Gates
A traveller who passed through security around 3:00 AM in October 2024 found comfortable seats with power outlets near the first Schengen departure gate. After an uncomfortable night landside, this provided a much better opportunity to rest.
Seating: Comfortable chairs
Power: Outlets beside some seats
The airport provides designated relaxation seating in these areas. These are useful places to check during a longer connection, especially if you want somewhere more restful than ordinary gate chairs.
Seating: Relaxation chairs
Power: Available at some relaxation seating
Pier B, Airside, Transfer Area
The existing Airport Guide mentions a couch in the Pier B transfer area. It may be worth looking for if you’re already connecting through Pier B, although its exact position and current availability are unclear.
Seating: Couch previously reported
The Arrivals Hall is a practical fallback when you cannot pass security. Travellers in January 2023 and October 2024 found benches near the car rental counters after leaving the fourth floor. The area can be less busy than Departures in the early morning, but the seating is basic.
Seating: Benches and rows of chairs
Power: Limited landside outlets reported
Main Terminal, Landside, Departures Hall, Starbucks Area
Older traveller reviews describe padded benches around Starbucks, including places where it was possible to lie down during quieter periods. Seating arrangements have changed over the years, and café staff have previously asked non-customers to leave, so this should not be treated as a guaranteed sleeping spot.
Seating: Padded café benches previously reported
Noise: Public departure hall activity
Main Terminal, Landside, Fourth Floor – Not Recommended
Older airport-sleeping advice suggested the fourth-floor corridors around the offices as a quiet place to sleep. However, travellers in January 2023 and October 2024 were woken or removed by security staff, who said sleeping there was prohibited or the area was reserved for employees. Do not plan to sleep on the fourth floor, even if you find an empty corridor or no signs restricting access.
Airport Sleeper Essentials
Cots
Brussels Airport does not offer cots as a regular service for stranded travellers. Older reviews mention cots being distributed during major flight disruptions, but you should not count on these being available.
Food Available Overnight
Landside, Departures Hall: Starbucks is listed as open 24 hours, making it the main option for coffee, sandwiches and snacks during an overnight stay before security.
Airside, Piers A and B: Most restaurants and cafés close in the evening. If you’re staying after security, buy something before the concessions close rather than expecting to find a meal during the night.
Luggage Storage
Brussels Airport has self-service luggage lockers available 24 hours a day, useful if you want to put away a larger bag while resting.
Location: Landside, outside the terminal at Level 0, near the bus station and terminal exit.
Hours: 24 hours
Cost: From €10 per 24 hours for a medium locker, with larger sizes available at higher rates.
Because the lockers are before security, you will need to leave the departure gate area to use them.
Showers
Showers are available inside The View Lounge, after security in Pier B, between Gates B04 and B05. Access requires a lounge pass or an eligible ticket. The lounge normally operates from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, so showers are not available throughout the night. There are no general public shower facilities in the terminal.
Airport Hotels, Sleep Pods & Cabins
Brussels Airport has a hotel directly opposite the terminal and several others a short distance away. There is no general-use transit hotel inside the secure departure area.
Inside the Airport Area
Sheraton Hotel Brussels Airport
Located directly opposite the Departures Hall, approximately 39 steps from the terminal entrance.
Day rooms may be available on request.

Airport Lounges with Sleep Facilities
The View Lounge

The View offers private sleep pods for passengers who want to rest during a connection. The lounge also has showers, seating, food and drinks. This is primarily a daytime or evening resting option, not somewhere to spend the entire night.
Hours: 5:00 AM – 10:00 PM daily, subject to flight schedules.
Sleep Facilities: Private sleep pods.
Showers: Yes.
Access: Available to eligible departing passengers through a lounge pass or qualifying ticket. The lounge is accessible to passengers departing from Gates B.
Other airport lounges, including the Diamond Lounge and Brussels Airlines lounges, offer seating and refreshments but do not provide dedicated sleeping areas.
See the Brussels Zaventem Airport Guide for the full lounge list and access information.
Safety & Security
Brussels Airport has security staff on duty, but that does not mean every quiet corner is available for sleeping. Travellers have been woken and asked to leave the fourth-floor office areas, including in 2023 and 2024. An older traveller review also raised concerns about feeling unsafe in the public terminal at night. While this does not establish a recurring security problem, it is a reminder to choose your sleeping spot carefully, particularly if you’re travelling alone. Keep your passport, phone and valuables secured, and position your luggage immediately beside you or attached to you while sleeping. Avoid isolated office corridors and restricted areas, even if they appear quiet. If you need help, airport crew members wearing green “May I help you?” shirts are available around the clock.
