Sleeping in Zagreb Airport

Overview

Sleeping in Zagreb Airport is a reasonable option for travellers with an early flight, long layover or overnight connection. The terminal is relatively small, and travellers describe quiet public areas, clean facilities and metal benches without armrests where you can stretch out. The main drawbacks are cold seating, occasional loud announcements and overnight cleaning.

For overnight stays, the public areas before security are the most dependable option. Travellers have successfully slept in both the arrivals and departures areas without being disturbed by staff. There is less information about remaining after security overnight, so don’t rely on being able to stay airside until morning. Bring warm layers, something to put between you and the metal benches, and an eye mask.

I slept surprisingly well and then boarded my flight on time!” (Traveller review, May 2023)

Can You Sleep in Zagreb Airport Overnight?

Yes. Zagreb Airport remains open overnight, and travellers have successfully slept in the public areas before security without being disturbed. Both the arrivals and departures levels have armrest-free seating, with recent reviews describing quiet conditions and other passengers sleeping nearby. Overnight sleeping is most dependable landside (before security). It is unclear whether passengers can remain airside after security closes, so plan to sleep in the public areas if staying overnight. Travellers arriving late or departing early should check with airport staff about access restrictions.

Sleepability Verdict

Sleepability: Good

Zagreb Airport earns a Good rating for its relatively quiet overnight atmosphere, clean surroundings and armrest-free benches in the public areas. Several travellers have managed a full night of uninterrupted sleep, and the August 2025 review reinforces that landside sleeping remains an option. Comfort is the main limitation. The benches are made of metal, tiled floors offer little insulation, and travellers repeatedly mention feeling cold. Announcements and cleaning equipment can also interrupt an otherwise peaceful night. Zagreb is a better prospect for travellers prepared with warm clothing and basic sleeping supplies than for anyone expecting a padded or dedicated sleeping area.

The benches are metal so I recommend puting a layer over it before lying down.” (Traveller review, May 2023)

Best Places to Sleep

The public areas before security offer the most useful sleeping locations described in traveller reviews. Arrivals is on the ground floor, while departures is upstairs.

Airside

Departures, Airside, Gate Seating
After security, travellers have identified chairs and tables with USB-A ports and electrical outlets immediately beyond duty-free, as well as charging facilities near the gates.
These areas may be useful for resting during a daytime connection or while waiting for a flight. However, there is not enough recent sleeping information to identify a dependable overnight location after security.
Power: USB-A ports and electrical outlets

Landside

Departures, Landside, near Oversized Baggage
On the departures level, look for the seating along the left-hand side near the Oversized Baggage counter. A November 2022 traveller described this as an established sleeping spot with armrest-free metal seating, enough room to stretch out and a nearby toilet with drinking water.
The area was nearly empty late in the evening, although a robotic floor cleaner repeatedly passed through and made noise. Bring something warm to place over the benches.
Seating: Metal benches without armrests
Noise: Announcements and robotic cleaning equipment
Lighting: Relatively dim
Temperature: Cold

Arrivals, Landside, near Baggage Claim
A traveller in August 2025 described sleeping near the baggage claim area, where several other passengers were also resting. The metal chairs had no armrests, the lighting was not particularly disturbing, and the area remained quiet throughout the night.
The traveller reported no interruptions from staff, although the seating was cold. This is one of the more recently described sleeping locations at Zagreb.
Seating: Armrest-free metal chairs
Noise: Quiet overnight
Lighting: Not particularly disturbing
Temperature: Cold

Arrivals, Landside, Public Waiting Area
The ground-floor public arrivals area has also been used for overnight sleeping. An earlier traveller described spending the night here without being disturbed, despite regular staff activity.
The space was clean and uncrowded, but loud public announcements were a significant annoyance. This area may be useful if you arrive late and prefer not to go upstairs.
Noise: Loud announcements

Departures, Landside, First-Floor Lounge Chairs
Past reviews mention a small seating area with lounge-style or deck chairs on the first floor before security. Travellers have described it as a place to stretch out and rest without being disturbed by security. This is worth checking before settling on a metal bench, although the seating arrangement has not been confirmed recently.
Seating: Lounge-style chairs

Departures, Landside, Second-Floor Mezzanine
The mezzanine on the second floor has previously been suggested as a quieter place to rest, away from some of the activity in the main terminal.
There is limited recent information about the seating and overnight conditions here, so treat it as somewhere to explore rather than a guaranteed sleeping spot.

Airport Sleeper Essentials

Cots
Zagreb Airport does not provide cots for stranded passengers, including during major flight disruptions.

Food Available Overnight
There are no confirmed 24-hour staffed restaurants or cafés at Zagreb Airport. If you are staying overnight, buy food and drinks before the concessions close. The airport lists a 24/7 Polleo Sport Vending Zone, although its selection may not be suitable for a full meal. Check the machines before relying on them for overnight refreshments. Travellers have also described limited food choices before security, so don’t assume you will be able to buy a meal after arriving late.

Luggage Storage
Zagreb Airport does not offer public luggage storage or lockers. Keep your bags immediately beside you or secured to you while sleeping.

Showers
There are no public shower facilities at Zagreb Airport. The airport’s Primeclass Lounge also does not provide showers.

Safety & Security

Travellers generally describe feeling safe sleeping in Zagreb Airport’s public areas. Several reviews mention other passengers sleeping nearby and staff allowing people to rest without interruption.
The August 2025 traveller specifically reported feeling safe and sleeping undisturbed near baggage claim. There are no recurring theft or harassment concerns in the supplied sleeping reviews. However, there is no public luggage storage, so keep your passport, phone and valuables secured and your bags close to you. Airport staff may pass through the sleeping areas, and unattended baggage announcements are frequent. Avoid leaving belongings unattended, even briefly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need permission to sleep overnight at Zagreb Airport?
The airport officially permits overnight stays in the public areas before security. It advises travellers to check with staff at the information desk for information about overnight conditions. The information desk is on the ground floor.
Can I sleep on the floor?
Travellers have mainly described sleeping on benches rather than the floor. The terminal has hard tiled flooring, which can be cold and uncomfortable. There is no confirmed designated floor-sleeping area.
Can I charge my phone while resting?
es. Electrical outlets and USB-A charging points have been reported near the departure gates and immediately beyond duty-free. Charge your devices while awake and keep them within sight.
Is Zagreb Airport suitable for an early morning flight?
