Singapore Airport Overview
Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) has four passenger terminals plus Jewel, a large landside complex connected directly to Terminal 1 and by link bridges to Terminals 2 and 3. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are connected by Skytrain and walking routes, while Terminal 4 requires a shuttle transfer. Jewel is in the public area, so transit passengers must clear immigration to visit it.
Changi is unusually well equipped for a long layover. Beyond the usual restaurants and shops, you’ll find free snooze lounges, gardens, a movie theatre, showers, transit hotels and plenty of places to charge your devices. The trade-off is size: getting between a rest area, restaurant, attraction and your departure gate can involve a fair amount of walking.
Sleeping in Singapore Airport
Changi is one of the better airports for sleeping, particularly if you can remain airside. All four terminals have free 24-hour snooze lounges, along with reclining and armrest-free seating in some areas. Popular sleep spots can fill quickly, and travellers have reported noise and occasional passport or staff checks.
Sleeping landside is less comfortable and offers fewer good options. If you want a proper bed, airside transit hotels are available in Terminals 1, 2 and 3, with additional landside hotel options at Jewel and Terminal 3.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.
Airport Hours
The public areas of Singapore Changi Airport are open 24 hours.
Airside access depends on the normal immigration, boarding-pass and transfer requirements. Transit passengers visiting Jewel must clear arrival immigration because Jewel is landside.

Rest Areas
If you’re transiting for a few hours and don’t want to book a transit hotel, Changi Airport has free Snooze Lounges with padded recliners designed for short naps. These seats are first-come, first-served, limited in number, and can fill up quickly overnight.

Whether you need a short nap, a day room, or a proper bed, Changi Airport offers several sleep options at different comfort and price levels—both airside (transit) and landside (public area).
Singapore Airport Transit Hotels
There are three transit hotels at Changi Airport and a few lounges with sleep facilities. You can only access these hotels on the airside of the terminal. That means you do not need to go through immigration if you are on a layover and cannot access your checked luggage. These hotels are not accessible to travellers in the terminal’s public area.
- Changi Transit Hotel (Terminal 1) – Location: Terminal 1, Transit Area, Level 3, near Gate D40. How to get there: At Gate D40, take the escalator to the 3rd floor. The Changi Transit Hotel offers flexible hourly accommodation with a minimum stay of 6 hours, making it a convenient option for transit passengers who want a private room without clearing immigration. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, fitness area, restaurant, and shower facilities.
- Ambassador Transit Hotel (Terminal 2) – Location: Terminal 2, Transit Mall South, Level 3. The Ambassador Transit Hotel offers day rooms in 6-hour blocks with the possibility of adding extensions for $25 per hour. The minimum stay is three hours. To access the transit hotels, DO NOT PASS THROUGH CUSTOMS. Check-in baggage cannot be collected for your stay.
- Ambassador Transit Hotel (Terminal 3) – Location: Terminal 3, Airside, Departure Transit Hall, Level 3. The Ambassador Transit Hotel offers day rooms in six-hour blocks with the possibility of adding extensions for $25 per hour. The minimum stay is three hours. To access the transit hotels, DO NOT PASS THROUGH CUSTOMS. Check-in baggage cannot be collected for the stay.
- Changi Lounge – Location: Jewel, Landside, Level 1, opposite Check-in Counters (public area; transit passengers must leave the secure zone). Hours: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM, daily. Showers: Yes. Sleep Facilities: Yes (Nap Room with 4 MetroNaps EnergyPods, $20 per hour).

Travellers in the public area have several easy, walkable hotel options.
- YOTELAIR – Mid-range hotel. Location: Jewel Terminal, Level 4, Landside. The nearest elevator is in Lobby H. The YotelAir offers several sleep cabins that can be rented by the hour (minimum 4 hours). Cabins come equipped with queen-sized beds, WiFi, showers and more.
- Crowne Plaza Changi Airport – Upscale hotel. Approx. 3-minute walk from Terminal 3. Shuttle: Not required.

Food & Drinks
Changi has extensive dining in all four terminals and Jewel, with choices available both landside and airside. Options range from cafés and fast food to food courts and full-service restaurants.
Several food and drink outlets remain open 24 hours, but availability varies by terminal and between landside and airside areas. Check the airport’s current dining directory for individual restaurants and opening hours.

Drinking Water
Free drinking-water points are available throughout the terminals. Look for drinking-water or bottle-refill facilities in passenger areas and near washrooms.
Luggage Storage & Lockers
Lighten your load by storing your luggage at the SmarteCarte left luggage counter, available 24 hours a day. Rates are S$5 – S$18 per bag per 24 hours. Locations:

If you want to freshen up after your nap, head to one of the shower facilities at Changi Airport.
- Landside: Hub & Spoke at Terminal 2 has showers for S$5 per entry; towels are sold separately. Changi Lounge in Jewel also has paid showers.

Free WiFi is available at Singapore Airport. Connect to the “#WiFi@Changi” network, then open any browser to launch the log-in page. After clicking the WiFi logo, you will be connected to the airport network.

Changi has considerably more to do during a layover than most airports. Depending on your terminal and whether you can enter Singapore, options include gardens, a free movie theatre, play areas, viewing areas and the attractions in Jewel.
Terminal 1
Airside attractions include the Cactus Garden and other garden areas.
Terminal 2
Airside attractions include Dreamscape, the Enchanted Garden and Sunflower Garden, along with children’s play and entertainment areas. Eligible transit passengers may also be able to join a Free Singapore Tour, subject to immigration requirements, minimum layover times and tour availability.
Terminal 3
The Butterfly Garden is airside in Terminal 3 and remains one of Changi’s more unusual free attractions. Terminal 3 also has a free Movie Theatre, children’s play areas and other entertainment facilities.
Terminal 4
Airside attractions include the Heritage Zone, entertainment areas and Steel in Bloom, along with digital displays and art installations.
Jewel Changi Airport
Jewel is landside, so transit passengers must clear immigration to visit it. The centrepiece is the Rain Vortex, surrounded by the Shiseido Forest Valley. Canopy Park includes paid attractions such as the Canopy Bridge, walking and bouncing nets, hedge and mirror mazes and slides.

Getting Around Changi Airport
Terminals 1, 2 and 3
The free Skytrain connects Terminals 1, 2 and 3 in both the public and transit areas from approximately 5:00 AM – 2:00 AM. When the Skytrain is not operating, walking routes connect the terminals.
Terminal 4
Terminal 4 is separate from Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Free shuttle buses provide terminal connections. If you are transferring airside to Terminal 4, your itinerary and baggage must meet the airport’s transit-transfer requirements. Follow the transfer signs when you arrive rather than clearing immigration.
Jewel
Jewel is landside.
Terminal 1: Directly connected to the Arrival Hall.
Terminal 2: Approximately 5-10 minutes via the link bridge.
Terminal 3: Approximately 5-10 minutes via the link bridge.
Terminal 4: Use the free shuttle bus.
Transit passengers must clear immigration before visiting Jewel.
MRT
Changi Airport MRT Station serves Terminals 2 and 3. Passengers arriving at Terminals 1 and 4 can use the airport’s terminal connections to reach the station.
There is no direct MRT train from Changi Airport to central Singapore. Depending on your destination, transfer at Tanah Merah for the East-West Line or Expo for the Downtown Line.
The MRT does not operate throughout the night, so check the current schedule if you have a late arrival or early departure.
Bus and Shuttle
Public buses connect Changi with destinations throughout Singapore. Services include 24, 27, 34, 36, 53, 110 and 858. For schedules and fares, visit the SBS Transit website.
Terminals 1, 2 and 3 use basement bus bays. Terminal 4 bus stops are located near Car Park 4B and the SATS Inflight Catering Centre.
Accepted contactless cards and mobile wallets can be used for fares. Cash is also accepted, but exact fare is required.
Car Rentals
Car rental services are available at Changi Airport. Operators and counter hours vary, so check current availability before arrival.
Ride Sharing
App-based private-hire vehicles operate at Changi. Follow the instructions in your app and airport signs to the designated pick-up area for your terminal.
Taxi
Taxi stands are located in the Arrivals areas of all four passenger terminals. Taxis operate 24 hours.
The trip to central Singapore generally takes about 30 minutes under normal traffic conditions. Airport, midnight and peak-hour surcharges may apply in addition to the metered fare.
