"After a terrifying minibus ride and a very unpleasant ferrytrip to the Gili Islands (off the coast of Lombok and a real paradise, well worth the journey from Bali) we decided to make our own way back to Bali by flying from Mataram airport. We were able to book our flghts from the Gili islands and negotiated a ride to the airport unfortunately we were dropped off about 10-11 hours before the flight!!The departure lounge was pretty basic with basic padding and it was fairly busy and noisy, so I wisely decided to pay about 2 for access to the VIP lounge which had much better air con, international TV channels internet access, very comfortable luxury sofas, a shower, nice toilets and friendly discrete staff offering an endless supply of tea coffee and biscuits. I was able to put my feet up and get a good few hours sleep.The food at the restaurant in the departure lounge is awful my friend ordered a chicken dish, which looked like it had been crucified after having been starved for 3 months!! my advice is go for the omelette :) my advice is pay a small amount of money for the VIP lounge if you're going to be here for a reasonable amount of time."
